Bundle Up and Get Cosy

Even if you do not want to wear heavy sweaters inside your home, it is a good idea to do so just for the sake of saving extra money on your energy bills. You will get used to what it feels like to wear heavier clothing.

But if you absolutely cannot handle this type of fashion, you can simply wear layers of clothing that can do the trick. But you also want to be sure to wear a hat, even inside the house, as a lot of heat escapes from your head. And you should make it a point to wear warm socks, such as slipper socks, and slippers, too, especially if you have cold tile floors.

Get Moving

A great way to warm up the body and lower that thermostat is to exercise. Get the body moving and the blood pumping by doing some cardiovascular workouts at home or even some weight training exercises.

Even a good round of yoga or Pilates will do the trick. The added benefit is that it gives you a reason to stay active, get in shape, build muscles, and lose some excess weight so that you can be ready for swimsuit season when it finally arrives again.

Enjoy Some Baking

The summer season is the one during which you should avoid using your oven and stove, but during the winter, this is a great strategy if you want to reduce the amount of energy that your furnace is using. You will still be able to stay warm and comfortable in your home despite lowering the temperature on your thermostat.

Bake some cakes and cookies, which are especially great during the holidays, and cook up some hearty stews and soups on the stovetop to generate plenty of heat and enjoy the warming rewards of your efforts when you are done.

Take Advantage of Your Hot Showers

Hot showers are a great way to soothe your body during the winter season. But after you are done, keep the door to your bathroom open so that all of that hot air and humidity can escape into other areas of your home and warm it up.

Just because it is cold outside and you are on a tight budget does not mean that you have to be cold inside your own home. By using the right tricks, you can still stay warm and reduce your energy consumption to save money.
