Planning A Stag Weekend

So your best mate is about to marry the woman of his dreams and the date for the wedding is all set. But before he settles into marital bliss, the stag weekend is his last chance to let his hair down and make the most of his final days of bachelor life.

So what should you do to be sure your buddy has a weekend he will never forget? Read on to find out.

Pick your Squad
Although they probably won’t need much encouragement you should be sure that everyone is available for the date you have planned. Ideally this needs to be at least two weeks before the wedding, to allow everyone to calm down. You should also be sensible about the numbers.

While it’s tempting to invite everyone from the pub or work, you should limit numbers to no more than 15 unless you want to feel as if you’re in charge of organising the Olympics.

Involving the Groom
You need to decide if you want the groom to approve your plans. Although surprises are fun, remember this is all about your best friend. So if you’re in any doubt about your choices, it might be better to present him with some options.

Decide on the Budget
Be aware that not all men are equal when it comes to income, so try not to price anyone out of the market. Ultimately, you want people there who are going to be the most fun – not just those who can afford it. So decide on a per head price and stay within the limit, and be sure to collect the money from everyone in good time by imposing a ‘pay by this date’ policy.

On the weekend itself, you should also try and avoid any expensive extras. Spraying everyone with vintage Cristal champagne might seem like a good idea at the time, but it’s not something that everyone will be pleased to pick up the tab for.

Plan an Event
Spending the whole weekend drinking and roaming around bars and nightclubs can wear pretty thin, so make the weekend more memorable by building in an event. This could be anything from tickets to the six nations, to a white water rafting session. The possibilities are endless. Competitive team activities are always popular, and a combination of cold water and white water rafting should have a sobering effect!

Have an Agenda
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail, and without some kind of structure the weekend can quickly fall into disarray. You will have to marshall the troops, so research the best places to eat and things to do in the vicinity, and devise a plan for the entire weekend. This way, everyone will know what they are doing.

Organise Accommodation
As you’re unlikely to be making much use of a spa on a stag weekend, keep the accommodation as basic as possible. You’ll only be using a hotel as a base for sleeping, so it doesn’t have to be five star. If your weekend is city based, then try and stay within the city centre so that your accommodation is within staggering distance. You should also book group transport to the airport – no man should be left behind because he overslept.
