How To Furnish Your New House From Afar

New House

Moving into a new home can be a daunting task.  Packing, cleaning out your possessions, and saying goodbye to friends can leave you exhausted.  After you finish all of that, you’re expected to set up shop in a new, foreign place.

Complicating things further, you may only be moving into a place for a set amount of time.  If your job relocates you, or if you work in a field like the military that requires you to pack up and go every few years, you may want to consider a different approach.

Start Fresh
Make things easy on yourself.  If you know that you’ll be bouncing around from one location to the next over the following years, you should probably clean out some of your possessions.  Don’t invest too much money in anything that you can’t fit into a minivan.

Yes, you need kitchenware and furniture, but do you need to invest in quality items?  No.  Simplify.  Avoid collecting too much.  Digitize as much as possible (books, music, videos).  A big yard sale may be just what you need to strip things down so that your move goes smoothly.

Network
It’s hard to find friends in a new town.  Oftentimes, it takes a while.  However, when you step back, it’s easy to see that there are plenty of other people in the exact same situation as you.  The trick to finding them lies online.

Social networking has made it easier than ever for people to come together when they have the same interests.  If you are in a position that requires you to move around a lot, check online for social circles of people in your field.  Who knows?  They may even end up in the next town as you when you move!

Furnishing
Setting up your new house on the fly doesn’t have to be stressful.  We live in an age of technological convenience, after all.  You can look online for a new place to stay.  Then check for all new furniture.  By using sites like Home Direct, Amazon, or others; you can walk into a furnished room upon arrival.

Order ahead, and pay the extra to have them assemble upon delivery.  Work things out with your new landlord to let them in.  This way, when you arrive in your new home, a good deal of the physical setup is complete, and you are free to dive right in to work.

Get your Utilities in Order
While most of your basics should already be taken care of it is always good to get a head start on contacting people like your electric company and water provider to know exactly what is needed of you beforehand. The same goes for less vital but still important luxuries like your phone, cable and internet provider. The last thing you want is a lovely home with nothing to do in!

Making plans for all of these little details can really make your transition from one home to the next much less stressful.  The last thing anyone wants is to find more work to do to after finally finishing the long process of moving!
