How to Have a Healthier Weekend

If you’re not yet making an effort to live a healthier lifestyle, now is the time to start. Living healthfully doesn’t have to be a difficult decision or hard to accomplish. All it takes are little improvements, and they can make a world of difference. A great time to start living healthier is on the weekend. Yes, this very weekend. Here are some tips and suggestions to help you have a healthier weekend.

Get Enough Rest

Don’t stay up all night on the weekends and then sleep in all day. A consistent and positive sleep schedule can really help keep you healthy. Try to stick to your usual sleep schedule. If you can’t, don’t stay up more than a couple hours past your usual bedtime. Get a full eight hours of sleep.
Eat Breakfast

Breakfast is important every day, not just before you go to work or school. Eat breakfast in the mornings of your weekend, and try to make it a healthy one. Eat foods like fruit, whole-wheat toast, and eggs. Even if you want to indulge with bacon and waffles, though, it’s still better than nothing.

Go Outside

People who spend more time outdoors are generally healthier than others. When the weather is nice, don’t stay at home. You’re inside enough during the week. Getting out, even if it’s just to take a short walk, will help improve your mood and make you healthier.
Exercise

When your schedule isn’t quite so full, it’s the perfect time to exercise. Make it a goal to work out once during the weekend. You can do whatever type of workout you prefer, but it’s also a great time to work out by doing fun activities like sports, biking, or hiking. Activities like those will help boost your fitness level, and they’re also just fun things to do on the weekend (or any time).

Relax

It’s the weekend, so of course you’re going to relax, right? Some people load up their weekend schedules, though, and don’t leave any time for simple relaxation. Make sure there are at least a few hours during the weekend when you have no other obligations. During that time, just slow down, relax, and don’t do much of anything. Meditate, take a bubble bath, or do whatever relaxes you.

Go Out with Friends

Your mental health is very important, too, so use the weekend to visit family or hang out with friends. Spending more time with the people you love is a great way to improve your mood and boost your confidence. Don’t withdraw and stay to yourself. Make an effort to be social.

Watch What You Eat (and Drink)

Especially if you’re on a diet, the weekend tends to wreak havoc on our eating habits. We want to indulge! It’s perfectly okay to indulge during the weekend, but be careful not to overdo it. Make a conscious effort to continue eating healthfully. Drinking alcohol on the weekend can also be harmful to your body, so always drink in moderation.
