He designs for one of the biggest fashion houses in the world but not many know his name. Ricardo Tisci is the creative director of Givenchy’s haute couture and ready-to-wear lines. With Paris Fashion Week coming to a close people are talking about who created waves and made history with their lines and Ricardo Tisci’s name is amongst the hyped fashion luminaries
.

Ricardo Tisci

Born in Italy in the town of Taranto, Ricardo has maintained the town’s influence of mermaids and marines in his designs. As a Catholic, Tisci also finds his religious roots to be an inspiration for many of his stylish pieces. He graduated from Central Saint Martin’s Art & Design College in London in 1999. Ricardo then went on to work for names such as Coccapani and Puma before joining Ruffa Research.

Once Tisci’s contract with Ruffa was done he worked on his own line and showcased his talent at the Milan Fashion week in 2005. His creations created a ripple of whispers and the fashion conscious soon found themselves taken with Ricardo Tisci. Not long after his well-received personal line was shown on the catwalks he was offered a job as Creative Director at Givenchy.

He has curated some amazing art events and designed clothing for the likes of Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet Tour. He also enjoys designing private collections for the star when she is not on stage. The man is a born designer with a flair for amazing and Ricardo Tisci proved it again when he has worked with Kanye West and Jay-Z and designed the cover of Watch the Throne.

Ricardo Tisci has experienced amazing success with the House of Givenchy. Not only has he experienced critical and financial success his designs have quadrupled Givenchy’s private customer base. Tisci was appointed as his contemporary designs are romanticised while carrying an air of sensuality. Ricardo’s most recent Givenchy offering at the Paris Fashion Week proved that his talented hand can take any inspiration from any age or area and turn it into a true art form.

The Givenchy 1960’s gypsy influenced collection from Tisci was one of the event’s high points. Long flowing skirts with chains and embroideries were dark and opulent. The leather and tooled embellishments turned the long flowing skirts and dresses into darkly romantic pieces. Tisci took something generic and turned it into haute couture. Combined with couture boots the Givenchy line makes for pure creative genius on the part of Ricardo Tisci.
